PlayGround Company in the News Jul-12

Read on to learn about PlayGround Company Members' recent news, current happenings, and upcoming events. 

Founding PlayGround Writer Garret Jon Groenveld just got back from Zaragoza, Spain where he saw the first presentation of his play, THE HUMMINGBIRDS as part of his journey of winning the Internationalists Global Playwriting Contest.  Future stops include Berlin, Bucharest, The Hague, Mexico City and New York City.  The Internationalists have no money to send him to these places, so he's on the last push for his Kickstarter campaign to raise funds.  It closes at 1AM July 8th, so please donate if you can afford and are interested in sending PlayGround and Bay Area Writers into the greater world:
Lauren Yee will be involved in the Festival del Sole 24 Hour Play Festival in Napa Valley. And her play SAMSARA will be in the 2012 Bay Area Playwrights Festival, directed by Jessica Heidt, dramaturged by Laura Brueckner.

City Lights Theatre Company of San Jose will be presenting a reading of Ross Nelson’s play BONES as part of their New Play Series.  The show will be directed by Heather Noelle Robinson on August 7th at 8pm. For more info, visit

Impact Theatre will be doing a reading of Trevor Allen’s play, THE BLACK BOX on July 22nd.

Tom Swift’s play and PlayGround commission, A MARRIAGE, was a finalist for the Ashland New Plays Festival.  This is the fourth selection for finalist in three separate competitions:  Always the bridesmaid, never the bride!

Tim Kniffin will be playing Malvolio in TWELFTH NIGHT at Napa Valley Shakespeare.  Performances are July 20th-29th.

Aldo Billingslea is doing SPUNK at Cal Shakes through July.

Liam Vincent and Alex Moggridge are currently in SALOMANIA at the Aurora Theatre Company. Performances have been extended until July 29th. Alex has also been commissioned to write two short plays for students to perform at the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre.
Ginny Reed is having a great summer directing THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR at Livermore Shakespeare Festival (July 19th - 21st, Aug 3rd - 5th, and 12th only). Hope you can make it out to Concannon Vineyards:

Michael Barrett Austin is in VAUDEWILLE at The Willows Cabaret Theatre through July 21st.

Carolyn Doyle will be appearing at the SHOUT storytelling series on July 9th at The Grand Lake Coffee House in Oakland.

Mary Baird is teaching Linklater Voice for NYSSSA (New York State Summer School of Arts) at Sarah Lawrence for the month of July. She will also be doing a reading of a new script AMERICAN BARD (about Walt Whitman) directed by Marc Ramont and featuring Cotter Smith, and others.
