Audition Notice: The Tale of the Sleeping Cutie

PlayGround announces auditions for THE TALE OF THE SLEEPING CUTIE, a modern musical fairy tale by Diane Sampson with music by Doug Katsaros, commissioned by PlayGround. Auditions will take place on Monday, December 2, 2013, 12pm-5pm, in San Francisco (additional auditions will be scheduled in the evening as needed). The musical will have a workshop/reading, January 20-27, 2014, and a full production, April 17-May 25, 2014, at Thick House in San Francisco (rehearsal begins March 18, 2014). It will be produced under a BAPP, pending approval.

Looking for 7 actors- 4 male, 3 female – all are singing roles
FATHER: Male – 50’s
LUCY: Female – 20
MARY: Female – 40’s
WOMAN: Female – 40’s
CHARLIE: Male – 20-ish – blind
MAN #1: Male – 30's- (plays several characters of varying ages)
MAN #2: Male – 30's – (plays several characters of varying ages)

Director Cindy Goldfield, Playwright/Lyricist Diane Sampson and Artistic Director Jim Kleinmann of PlayGround will be in attendance. Please prepare a short up-tempo/patter song and a short ballad. Not more than 16 bars each. Bring sheet music in correct key. Accompanist will be provided.

Character description:
FATHER- convicted insider trader
LUCY- young naive, wannabe rock drummer
MARY- long-time housekeeper/nanny- we find out that she is really Mary Poppins in the end.
WOMAN- amnesiac, mother of Lucy and wife to FATHER, has been lost for years.
CHARLIE- singer in a rock band, blind, Lucy's love interest
MAN #1 and #2- Play many different parts- varying ages and characters.
