PlayGround Company in the News Oct-15

Davern Wright co-wrote THROUGH THE WALL with Anthony Clarvoe, Nick Hadikwa Mwaluko, and Sango Tajima for Ragged Wing Ensemble (Amy Sass, Artistic Director), opening Oct. 23 at the Flight Deck and playing Fridays through Sundays until Nov. 7. Wright is also performing in SAIL AWAY at 42nd St. Moon, starting previews Oct. 28, opening Sat. Oct.31, and playing Wednesdays through Sundays until Nov. 15.

Doyle Ott is directing Aaron Loeb’s Abraham Lincoln's Big Gay Dance Party at Sonoma State University opening Oct 15th, running through the 24th. 

Nancy Carlin is performing in THE PRICE for The Jewel Theater in Santa Cruz through October 4. She begins rehearsals for THE MONSTER BUILDER at the Aurora on October 13. 

Teddy Spencer and Lindsey Marie Schmeltzer will both appear in SENSE & SENSIBILITY at the Sacramento Theatre Company, September 30th - October 25th. Spencer is playing Edward and Robert Ferrars and Schmeltzer is playing Marianne Dashwood.

Julia McNeal plays Heather in the critically acclaimed American Premiere of FRED’s DINER by Penelope Skinner, at the Magic Theatre. Great ensemble cast. Must close October 11th!

Colin Johnson will be directing a fundraiser reading for next year’s production of TERROR RAMA 2: PROM NIGHT, Monday October 12 at Pianofight in SF. He is also producing and acting in this month’s installment of SF SHOTZ: IN THE DARK on Wednesday Oct 14, 8pm, also at Pianofight.

Ignacio Zulueta is the world designer and contributing writer for Epic Immersive's MATTHEW BRIAR AND THE AGE OF RESSURECTION at San Jose's History Park from Oct. 16-18. Drinks and dinner included with price of admission at bit.ly/briartix. His short plays THE REFUGE and 57 VARIETIES will be performed, respectively, at PianoFight (SF) on Oct. 14th for SHOTZ: IN THE DARK and at the Queensbury Theatre (Houston) from December 9th-19th for Cone Man Running's Five Minute Mile. 

Madeline Puccioni’s short play, THE SATURDAY NIGHTERS, will open October 10 in Towne Street Theatre's new show, IN RESPONSE, at the Stella Adler Theatre in Los Angeles. IN RESPONSE is a witty, heartbreaking, hilarious, angry, tender multi-author "response" to police shootings and systemic racism in law enforcement in America. It is a balanced, moving exploration of the effects of racism on each and every one of us.

Gwen Loeb has just closed ROMEO AND JULIET with San Francisco Shakespeare Festival and will next be performing in THERE THERE: AN EVENING WITH GERTRUDE STEIN with First Person Singular 10/22-30. Tracy Ward is directing the World Premiere of ARTIC REQUIEM: The Story of Luke Cole and Kivalina at ZBelow, by Sharmon Hilfinger and Joan McMillen.
Previews Oct 23, 24, Opens Oct 25. Runs till November 15.

Lauren Yee's play KING OF THE YEES goes into rehearsals for the Goodman Theatre's New Stages Festival this month, directed by Joshua Kahan Brody, starring Francis Jue. The workshop production will run Nov 1-15 in Chicago. This summer, she received commissions from South Coast Rep and Denver Center, which she is currently working on.

L. Zephyr's play, THE SECOND NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, will be performed this coming December at the ALPHA NYC Theatre Co. Not wanting the southern part of the country to feel left out, her play, I'M FIRST, which speaks to sibling rivalry in the womb, will be included in the upcoming Cone Man Running Play Festival In Houston, Texas.

Madeleine Butler's play, A COMFORTABLE LIFE, will be staged during the first two weeks in December as part of Sheherezade's Last Tales, a festival of short plays produced by the Playwrights' Center of San Francisco. The play was originally written as a submission for Monday Night PlayGround and workshopped in Recess. Adam Sussman will direct.

Jon Tracy is opening THE CREATURE at Cinnabar Theater, Our Country's Good at University High School and is preparing to run Groundswell's inaugural 10-Day theatre intensive in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico.

Mary Baird is doing a reading of JOHN at A.C.T. on Oct 23rd. She is also going to Groundswell, an international theatre intensive led by Jon Tracy, in Nov. in San Miguel de Allende and doing a reading performance of Holiday Memories in Ross on Nov. 27,28 with Michael Barrett Austin

Robert Sicular continues with the run of ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS at South Coast Rep through October 11th. On October 23, he will give a reading of selected stories and poems of Edgar Allan Poe at the San Anselmo Library

Jonathan Luskin is off to the Djerassi Artists Residency in October/November to revise THE LONG ARC, a play he started during last year’s PlayGround residency and is also developing a new web series. 

Douglas Giorgis continues to play "The Man" in MOMENTS OF TRUTH at the Royce Gallery thru October 18. Plus, he is super excited for the new PlayGround season. 

M. Graham Smith is directing THE ROVER at Shotgun Players, Oct 15- Nov 15.

Evelyn Jean Pine's three pieces of very short fiction will be featured in Issue #16 of Vine Leaves Literary Journal.

Cindy Goldfield is looking forward to beginning rehearsals for her 12th season of A Christmas Carol at A.C.T.

Michael Barrett Austin and his lovely wife Emily welcomed their first daughter Lucille Elizabeth Austin into the world on September 3rd, 2015! Austin will also be performing in PlayGround’s October Monday Night series.

Julia Brothers waves hello from the gorgeous shores of Monaco, vacationing, gambling and hoping to meet a prince. C'est la vie!

Jane Eisner's one act play DEAR TEXAS, a play inspired by transgender voices, premieres at The Flight Deck on Friday October 9 at 9:30PM and at the Your True Gender conference at Cal Poly on Sunday October 11 at 1:00PM. DEAR TEXAS, is directed by John R. Lewis and features a six actor ensemble. Tickets are free and seating is open.
