PlayGround Company in the News Mar-16

Tanya Grove will be one of the “Lucky 13” writers featured in the Playwright Cabaret, part of Theatre Bay Area’s annual conference, held at Berkeley Rep on March 28.

L. Zephyr's short play, VALENTINE MOON, (originally written for lasts year’s “Twisted Love Stories” at PlayGround) made its east coast debut at F.A.C.T in NYC on Feb 21st; in addition, an excerpt from her play, HOW I WALK IN THE WORLD, about Women in the military, will have a reading at the upcoming Theatre Bay Area Conference on March 28th.

Katie May and  Liz Anderson attended the first US screening of their short animated film, RAPUNZEL’S ETYMOLOGY OF ZERO (a PlayGround Film Festival selection), at the Winter Film Awards in NY, where it was nominated for best animated film, but lost to a film from Spain. In January, Liz was hired to produce and direct a local TV pilot called The Grey Area, which shoots in May.

Alex Moggridge will be back in Berkeley in April, performing in Mary Zimmerman's Treasure Island at Berkeley Rep.

Jonathan Luskin’s short play, Real Royals, was commissioned by ShotzSF and will appear at Piano Fight on Wednesday, March 9 and at The Barn Theater in Ross Valley on Saturday, March 12.

Rachel Bublitz's ten minute play Lean In With Liz! (originally developed at Monday Night PlayGround) was named a national semi-finalist for the Kennedy Center's ACTF's Garry Garrison National Ten-Minute Play Award.

Nancy Carlin is in rehearsal for Sarah Treem’s THE HOW AND THE WHY at the Aurora. It runs March 18 - May 8. 

Teddy Spencer is currently playing Sky Masterson in GUYS & DOLLS at Napa Valley Conservatory. Come April, Teddy will be performing in the World Premiere of WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S LONG LOST FIRST PLAY (ABRIDGED) with the Reduced Shakespeare Company at the Folger Theatre in Washington, DC.

Trevor Allen is producing the #49Mile Play podcast project based on his play 49 MILES http://www.blackboxtheatre.com/#!49miles/c1kmp the Theatre Process Podcast series http://www.theatrebayarea.org/news/news.asp?id=276317 and EXIT press is publishing a collection of five of his stage plays next month. His play WILD LIFE will have a PlayGround reading on March 7th.

Davern Wright's one-act New World University will premiere in Round 4 of ShortLived at Pianofight, running March 24 to March 26; come out and vote!  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/shortlived-round-4-tickets-21531301703. Michael Barrett Austin will be appearing in Boeing Boeing at San Jose Stage, April 6-May 1. www.thestage.org

Doyle Ott co-wrote and directed Bloom Kaboom!, the first co-production in Fairyland and Bay Area Children's Theatre's new Theatre for the Very Young program for audiences of 0-5-year-olds and their families, playing through April 17 in Oakland. 

Madeline Puccioni will have a short play in ON THE SPOT at PianoFight this month (3/21,22,28,29)  Come on in!  PianoFight just won the "Best New Nightclub" award in the SF NITEYS.  Her WAR BABIES, which PlayGround developed last year, will have a full production by GEMCO THEATRE CO. this April, in Emerald, Australia.  Her SATURDAY NIGHTERS will see a remount in Towne Street Theatre LA's IN RESPONSE in mid April, and her first full-length play, CYCLONE DANCING, will have a staged reading on June 6 by Playwrights' Center SF at The Shelton.  Please come for the reading and the talkback!

Anthony Williams will reading in Cutting Ball's RISK IS THIS Festival, March 11th-12th.

Louis Parnell continues to perform in THE NETHER @ the SF Playhouse which will close March 5. After that, he will workshop ENTANGLEMENT, a new play by AJ Baker that will go into full production in October.

Douglas Giorgis recently acted in the "Stagebridge Advanced Playwriting Workshop Presentation" as well as performing in developmental workshops of the new play, The Birthday Lottery.

Charley Lerrigo's 10 minute play The Trouble At Table 23 will be one of the nine plays in the first round of PCSF's Playoff season; Two performances, 3 pm and 7 pm on Sunday Mar. 6. At the Shelton Theater in SF. Charley's full length play Redraculous! will get a developmental read by the Playwrights Center of SF, Monday, March 28 . Also at the Shelton.

Opening this July, Ken Sonkin is directing Wild Boy by Oliver Goldstick at Dragon Theater.  Auditions are 3/27-30.  He’s also directing a reading of Humble Boy by Charlotte Jones at CCCT featuring a bunch of PlayGrounders. Mon. 4/25 @ 7pm.

Ross Peter Nelson is Associate Producer of the Last Chance New Play Fest, which will be presented in Helena, Montana, April 15-24. The festival is run by the Experimental Theatre Cooperative, and has just launched an Indiegogo fund-raising campaign.

Lauren Yee is the recipient of the 2015 Will Glickman Award for her play IN A WORD, which received its world premiere at SF Playhouse last spring and is currently playing at Chicago's Strawdog. Her play HOOKMAN was a runner up for the award. This is SF Playhouse’s second Glickman-winning production, having previously been honored for Aaron Loeb’s IDEATION, now heading to New York’s 59E59 Theaters.

Carolyn Doyle will be performing in One For All: A Solo Arts Festival at Douglas Morrison Theatre, Apr 8 -17, alongside Josh Kornbluth, Marga Gomez and Ann Randolph. http://www.dmtonline.org/14a.html
